NIGERIA’S U-23S DEFEAT JAPAN 5-4 IN RIO OLYMPIC 2016
Nigeria’s U-23s defeat Japan 5-4 in Rio Olympic 2016
Nigeria’s
U-23 team at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in their opening Group B thriller held
on to defeat Japan 5-4.
Irrespective
of what happened to them, Samson Siasia-led team had been stranded at their
training base in Atlanta, Georgia, for days before they boarded a chartered
flight that took them directly to the venue of the match.
Their
final group game will be in Sao Paolo against Colombia.
It
is expected that an investigation will be carried out after the Rio Olympics which
brought a big shame nationally and internationally on to Nigeria by the team’s
failure to arrive Brazil in good time.
To
begin with, the size of the official team to Brazil was exceeded by as many as
10 people.
Twenty
five of those on the flight from Atlanta are accredited for the Olympics, but
the other 10 were not.
